TuneUp Utilities 2012 – repair, optimize, and tweak your PC for better performance

Talking about backup software, actually, I have already used a lot and most of them work really well. However, my regular complaint is that mostly are very complicated to use. And as a non-expert or a beginner, I ended up not using them and skipping the backup process. But last week, I received an email from Softland and they ask me if I want to try their award-winning backup software, Backup4all. I decided to try it and here’s my experience with it.

Backup4all: What is it?

Backup4all is one of the most feature-rich backup software that you can find on the web. It is a Windows utility that is designed to protect your important files from partial or total loss by automating backup tasks, password protecting and compressing it to save storage space. What I like most about this application is its intuitive interface that makes it very user-friendly, perfect for both beginners and professionals! It also has a backup wizard that will guide you throughout the whole process.

Backup4all Professional

Among the three versions, Backup4all Professional offers the most advance options and features. As a beginner, I find it very easy to use because of its backup wizard. I just have to follow the guide and click Next to proceed to the next steps.

• FULL - starting point for all other backups and contains all the data in the folders and files that are selected to be backed up
• DIFFERENTIAL – contains all files that have changed since the last full backup
• INCREMENTAL – it stores all files that have changed since the last full, differential or incremental backup

Backup4ll Professional can also automate the backup process for you. You can choose if you want to do it daily, weekly, monthly, or if you want, you can also do it manually. However, if you choose manually, there’s always a tendency that you forget to do the backup process.

Once you’re done with the wizard, you’re now ready to run your backup! The speed of the backup process depends on how big your files are.

Once the backup is done, you’re now confident that your files are safe. Just make sure you take good care of the CD or USB or wherever you save the backup file. If you need to restore the backup, just click the Restore button and follow the wizard.

To be honest, I am really not familiar with Investintech and its products and when they contacted me last week, I was a bit doubtful if I should feature their products here. However, after doing some research, I found great reviews about their software and they have a good number of Facebook fans which tells me that a lot of people are trusting them that’s why I decided to give it a shot.

Able2Extract PDF Converter is one of the best products of Investintech. It’s like an all-in-one PDF converter tool that lets you accurately convert PDF to several output formats like Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Publisher, HTML, AutoCAD, or as an image. Here are some of the reasons I love about Able2Extract:

First of all, it has a very sleek, minimalistic, and well-designed interface.

Next, it’s very easy to use. To convert a PDF file, just click Open, browse for the PDF file you want to convert then click the “Select All” button if you want to convert all the pages or click the “Area” if you just want to convert a portion of the document.

Once you’ve selected the pages or portion of the document you want to convert, choose the output format then save the created file.

* The above steps can be easily done by just clicking the icons on the main toolbar.

The conversion speed is really fast and the result is more accurate compared to other PDF tools I’ve tried. It preserves the layout, formatting, and graphics of even the most complex PDF files.

However, the only drawback for me is that you need to have the Microsoft Office installed before you can convert the PDF to Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Publisher unlike AnyBizSoft which doesn’t require that. Hopefully, they can change this on their future updates and allow the users to convert PDF to any formats even without the MS Office installed. One more thing, Able2Extract doesn’t support conversion of protected or encrypted PDF documents which is another big advantage for AnyBizSoft.

Before I forget, Able2Extract lets you convert multiple PDF files at once using its batch mode feature.

VisiPics is an awesome tool that lets you find duplicate images on your PC faster than most of the commercial products out there. It applies five image comparison filters in order to give you a more accurate result.

VisiPics may look very confusing when you use it for the first time; You’ll see a lot of buttons and options but after a few minutes of studying how it works, I then realized that I only need to use some of the buttons in the program.

To start using VisiPics, just launch the application and choose the folders you want VisiPics to scan for duplicate images. Use the filter slider to specify the degree of filtration. Once done, click the Play button to start scanning the specified folders.

* If you choose the strictest setting, it will look for tiny differences to consider the images distinct, while the looser you set the restriction, the program will look for greater amount of differences which can result to an inaccurate result.

All detected duplicates will be shown side by side with information such as file name, type and size being displayed.

From here, you can then decide which picture you want to keep and which one you want to delete. If you want to automate this process, it has the auto-select mode which let you choose if you want to keep the higher resolution picture, space-saving file type, smaller file size or all of the above.

VisiPics is really a must-have tool if you want to save space on your hard drive and to speed up the process of finding duplicate pictures on your PC. It supports a lot of image formats like JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, RAW image file and more! And the best of all, it’s for free!

TeraCopy uses dynamically adjusted buffers to reduce seek times and asynchronous copy to speed up the file transfer. It lets you pause and resume file transfer and in case there has been a copy error, it will try to resolve it for several times but if it will not work, it will just skip the file without terminating the entire transfer.

TeraCopy is very simple to use. Just drag and drop the files or folder you want to move or copy into the TeraCopy interface then choose your desired location.

During my testing, it was able to copy a 1.45GB file to my external hard drive in less than 8 minutes with an average transfer speed of 3.4 MB/s. You’ll appreciate TeraCopy more if you’re transferring really huge files.

Another way to transfer files using TeraCopy is by right-clicking on the file you want to copy/move and choose TeraCopy then select the target folder. That simple!

TeraCopy can replace the standard Windows Explorer copy and move functions, allowing you to work with files as usual.

TeraCopy is free for home users and it has a portable version which you can download directly from their website.
